For Europe: Meet lots of developers -> FOSDEM Meet Fedora/RH developers -> FUDCon Meet lots of projects and see what they have to offer -> lots of events, would go to something with more 'community is a big family', not LinuxTag (e.g. Chemnitzer LinuxTage or FrOSCon, both in Germany) The choice really depends on waht you want to do/see.
