Hardy Heron

Hardy Heron

Coz i was bored, i downloaded the Alpha5 version of the Hardy Heron and installed it onto my laptop, i’m sure there is something i can report, but to be honest it’s only alpha and not that different or so i can see to the previous version of Ubuntu. I did notice a couple of things, default desktop background, what an improvement on the dull plain backdrops of previous releases.

From what i can see the default remote desktop viewer in Heron will be Vinagre, which is all well and good, BUT, i need to access and windows 2003 machine which is locked….er how do you send a CTRL+ALT+DELETE to the machine, er you can’t. Surely if this is the default program it should actually perform what i think is a basic feature?

Other than that i’m liking what i’m seeing, then again it’s only been on my machine a day and i’ll need to play a little more. Actually one more thing, they’ve renamed Restricted Driver Manager to be Hardware Drivers, no wonder i couldn’t find it :)

Shame about the renaming of the “restricted drivers manager”. I always liked the fact that Ubuntu was pretty up-front about explaining what the non-free drivers were. It seems like renaming it to “hardware drivers” is watering it down.

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say, “Restricted” obviously sounds too negative. Oh well…
